I understand that you have volunteered to be the moderator of this blog, which everyone appreciates (even those of us who love to play devil’s advocate). The responsibility should not only fall on you to get all the information! Since the recent crime spree (almost two weeks ago) several of my neighbors have stopped to talk to me about it. Unfortunately, no one that is involved with the neighborhood watch has inquired. Other than emailing you (and alerting the police) when we hear of a crime, is there anything else the rest of the neighborhood can do to help?
Heather, I don't know where you live. The newspaper did not give an address of where the yard items were stolen from. Someone told me they thought one of the houses was as you enter in on Lilac, but they were not for sure. Is that you?
I think you may have a misconception about the neighborhood watch. The only people "involved" are the police and whoever shows up to the meetings. To get started, Mrs. Mosler collected money for the signs and stickers and some of the other neighbors helped pass our fliers. There is really not too much that goes into a neighborhood watch. It's really what the neighborhood makes out of it. I thought it would be fun, and give everyone a chance to get to know each other better.
You bring up a really good point--"Is there anything else the rest of the neighborhood can do to help" when there is a crime? I don't know, but I would really like to hear some suggestions.
First off, what comes to the top of my mind, is that we need to get to know each other better. See, that is what the neighborhood watch meetings are designed to do. But, if people don't show up, then it doesn't work.
Maybe there are some other ways that we can all get to know each other. I love to walk around the neighborhood. Maybe we could organize some kind of neighborhood walk or something. Hmmmm, what do you think?
Ryan, I commend your patience.
Thanks Dave, that means a lot! :)
