Highlights From the Neighborhood Watch Meeting
Last night Detective Jeremy Reichert presented a program on crime scene investigation. He discussed various techniques, and gave advice on what to do if you believe you are the victim of a burglary. He suggested the following:
1. If you return home, and something does not feel right, DO NOT ENTER your home. Often, your gut instinct is right! If the door is unlocked, and you think you locked it, call the police.
2. If someone has been in your home, walk as close to the wall as possible, and try not to touch anything. Police may be able to gather finger prints or footprints.
3. Some burglars put things back in place. You may not realize you have been the victim of a crime until weeks later.
Mr. Reichert also suggested that you keep you home well lit, turn on the porch light when someone comes to the door, even if you don't open it, and GET TO KNOW YOUR NEIGHBORS! He also reminded everyone that people soliciting need to have a permit, and watch out for scams. Recently, a man was in the neighborhood driving around offering to spread mulch. Remember, if someone does not have insurance, and they get hurt on your property, you will be held liable.
The next meeting will be held in the the neighborhood this summer. Keep watching the website, and tell others. If anyone would like a sticker please call Susan Mosler. She also has refrigerator magnets displaying the police non-emergency number.
