Notes From The Fall Meeting

Tonight's meeting was a great success! "THANK YOU" for attending! In case you are wondering, the signs are bought and paid for. Once they arrive, the city will schedule them to be placed.

We have been invited to the 2nd Annual neighborhood watch potluck. The date is Tuesday, November 18th at 6:00pm at the Rolland Lewis Building. Please contact Susan if you plan to attend so they have an idea of how many to plan for.

Officer Gilbert spoke on the topic of "Identity Theft." Some of the highlights of his presentation were as follows:

Free Credit Report and Theft

  • Officer Gilbert reminded everyone the law lets people get a free credit report once a year. Since there are several agencies that provide this service, it is actually possible to get a free credit report approximately every 4 months. To get started, simply go to www.freecreditreport.com. You might be surprised by what you find!
  • Call the Police as soon as you think someone has your identity.
  • Photo-copy everything in your purse or billfold. If it gets stolen, you will know exactly which credit cards were lost, and who you need to contact.
  • Shred any and all documents with personal information.
Watch Out For Scams
  • With the holidays approaching, many will become the victims of criminals looking to take advantage of people's holiday generosities. Be weary of the, "Help Out The Children" type of scams over the phone. Always verify who you are donating to.
  • If you are sent an e-mail that you think is a scam, forward it to Officer Gilbert.
  • A helpful site is, www.ARIN.NET. This site allows you to check IP addresses.
